Project „Clean Heat“

With our European project Clean Heat, we aim at a significant reduction of particulate matter caused by wood burning. Together with our Danish partner DEC (Danish Ecological Council), we press ahead with technical and political solutions and provide comprehensive consumer information.

Our goals:

  • Increase awareness among consumers and political decision makers
  • Exchange of experience, promote the implementation of ambitious regulations: on local, national and European level.
  • Reduce emissions of private wood stoves by providing information for better handling and stove management.
  • Promote alternatives to wood burning.
  • Press ahead with the development of with fewer emissions.
  • Bring forward effective labeling and measurement procedures for wood stoves.

Measures and activities

  • Intensive PR and press work: press releases, press conferences, TV contributions, articles in magazines and professional journals, background talks to relevant topics and current developments.
  • Comprehensive consumer information to raise awareness for the issue are offered:

    • Flyer for different target groups are provided in cooperation with DIY markets and chimney sweeps, as well as at internal and external events.
    • A short film visualizes the topic in an easy understandable way and the photo competition encourages the general public to participate and to deal with the different aspects of wood burning.
    • A mobile exhibition will be shown at trade fairs and events. The visitors will be informed face-to-face and background material will be disseminated.

  • Project website as the central information platform of our campaign: includes background information, tips for better handling of stoves, current events and project documentation.
  • Own particle measurements demonstrate the problem and will be published.
  • Expert talks with industry, politics, science and other NGOs: issues like insulation, clean heat sources, exhaust cleaning technology, efficiency of devices, economic incentives, limit values and measurement procedures will be discussed.
  • The results of the expert talks will be disseminated in workshops in Brussels and other European countries with political decision makers on EU level, administrations and authorities as well as NGOs. Best practices in governance and technical solutions will be presented and discussed.
  • European network: Spreading of the project content and information material in other European countries in cooperation with local NGOs.

The project Clean Heat is co-financed by the EU LIFE program of the EU Commission. Clean Heat started in late summer 2015 and will run until the beginning of 2019.
